What can be

  Sodium Dawn
Amplifiers, speakers, 2001
Archive recordings of bird impersonators mimicking British songbirds are gathered to form an approximation of a woodland scene at dawn. Using a cut-and-paste technique the recordings are digitally formed into a subtle audio work in which 'blackbirds', 'cuckoos', 'chiff chaffs' and 'songthrush' join many other native birds to create a human-made dawn chorus based on woodland field-recordings from the National Sound Archive.

Sodium Dawn has been exhibited in Grizedale Live (2001), Grizedale Arts, Cumbria and Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery (2005). A CD with fold-out cover is available in an editioned series.
